Zombie Verisimilitude

There are two reasons to go the extra mile with a zombie costume:

1. You want party-goers to think your costume is cool.
2. You want to trick zombies so they don't eat you.

You will need:
A glue stick
A narrow thing that could penetrate skin
Enough extra skin to make a fold (on a part of your body that you can show people)

You can achieve this effect with just about any narrow object. I used wires and skewers. You could try screwdrivers, shards of wood, scissors, knitting needles, spikes, sticks... surprise me.

It's as simple as applying glue to your skin, letting it dry until tacky, applying the object and pinching the skin shut.

Hold the skin pinched until the glue dries. This seems like it would be painful but it isn't... nearly as painful as actual impaling. The kiddos didn't mind at all.

TSA Zombie Scanner Security Wand

This scanner is essentially an Arduino based theremin using an ultrasonic sensor as input.  The Arduino blinks some LEDs in response.

It is all housed in a custom cardboard/papier mache housing with attached grip.

You will need:

An Arduino, I used an Arduino UNO.

Ultrasonic range sensor - I used an HC-SR04, generic from ebay

Piezo speaker or buzzer for sound.

Bunch of LEDs in red and white.

Bunch of resistors to prevent your LEDs from burning out.  Use any online LED calculator to figure out the value of the resistor needed based on the specs of your circuit.

A couple of tactile switches and a slide switch for the battery pack.

A battery pack to make it portable.

Wire for the electronics

Cardboard and glue

Paint

Something to cover the front, plexiglas, acrylic, or I used some scrap window screen metal mesh.

CAUTION: Crafting is hazardous, pointy things and sharp things are pointy and sharp.  Know how to solder and use electronics safely.

Zombie in a Pot- A Fun Prop/Decoration

IMG_0477.JPGI've always wanted my own zombie, but not one of those run-of-the-mill zombies you can pick up during any old apocalypse. No, I wanted my own homegrown zombie. So I went down to my local black magic practitioner's store and bought me some organic zombie seeds. A few months of tender care later I had my own zombie! This is fun, easy to make, and great for Halloween.

If you like this please vote for me in the Zombie Contest!
