Instant RSS Search Quickly Finds Feeds On Your Favorite Topics

Instant RSS Search Quickly Finds Feeds On Your Favorite Topics

Finding RSS feeds isn't always as easy as it should be, and if you're trying to stick with just a single topic it's even harder. Instant RSS Search is a tool that helps you find feeds of just the content you're looking for.

With Instant RSS Search, you can search for blogs, podcasts, news, and more. Just type in what you're looking for, and the webapp shows you all the feeds out there that match your search criteria. Better still, you can set it up to search for more specific things, like Google accounts on Twitter, or just feeds that have Edward Snowden articles on The New York Times. If you're looking to expand your RSS feeds a bit now that you've moved into a new service after Google Reader's demise, then Instant RSS Search is a good place to start.

CareerSonar Finds You Jobs Through Your Friends' Connections

CareerSonar Finds You Jobs Through Your Friends' Connections

A friend on social media is often more of a friendly acquaintance, but you can use that to your benefit when seeking out a new job. CareerSonar uses your connections to others to help you find work at companies where your contacts can assist.

To start, you log into a social media account or five to connect them to CareerSonar. The webapp then searches through those connections for relevant job information and then finds job listings at those companies. You'll get a dashboard with not only a bunch of available jobs, but also who you know that might help you actually get that job. You can then apply and ask a friend for an introduction to help improve your chances.

You get more than a list, of course. If you want to narrow down your listings you can filter by search terms and location. You can also add missing friends and companies that you know have certain connections in the event CareerSonar can't find them through available social media data.

Overall, it works well as a job search site but it's really nice having that added bonus of knowing someone at a company you might like. Thanks to the vague relationships on social media, you might actually know a few people who can help you that you haven't though of. CareerSonar helps you identify those people and use their help to find better employment.

Weotta Finds Activities Based on Your Location, Schedule, and Interests

Weotta Finds Activities Based on Your Location, Schedule, and Interests

Plenty of sites exist to find restaurants and activities, but generally speaking you get a list of options and sort through them. Weotta takes your current situation into account, as well as your interests, to find you the best thing to do when you want to do it.

On top of information and events Weotta curates automatically in about 400 U.S. cities, you get more if you sign in via Facebook. Weotta will pay attention to what your friends do if they also use the app and make suggestions based on their interests, too. You can quickly provide tips about a place or event you liked, too, by quickly rating the activity. If you don't want suggestions, but rather want to find something specific, you can search from it and Weotta will provide you with options based on your query. For example, if you wanted a good restaurant near a concert open late, when the show is over, you can search for just that. Results never get limited to the big and obvious—smaller, lesser-known yet great activities and restaurants show up in your suggestions as well. If you're looking for new stuff to try, fire up Weotta and follow a suggestions. It might just help cure your boredom this weekend.

Reward Boost Finds the Best Rewards Credit Cards Based on Your Spending

Rewards credit cards are a great way to earn hundreds of dollars back on everyday spending. However, with so many different cards available and spending categories, finding the right ones to use can be tricky. Enter Reward Boost.

Simply enter the name of the cards you own—you don't have to provide login or account details—and your monthly spending by category and card to get a report of your annual rewards amount and percent back. Reward Boost will suggest alternative cards for you to consider if you want to maximize your cash back or rewards amount.

The site, currently in beta, isn't perfect. For example, it didn't have my grandfathered Amex Blue Cash card, so the percentages are off, and it can't account for rotating card categories. Also, special rewards categories, like Amazon purchases with the Chase Amazon card, aren't available.

Still, the webapp is useful for gauging if you're using the best cards for your spending. Daniel Packer, the developer of the site, writes on Sweating the Big Stuff that he created the site as an alternative to Mint, which may overestimate the amount you could get back from recommended cards.

(By the way, if you're looking for a travel credit card instead, which often gives you a better bang for your rewards buck, the similar MileCards calculator is your friend.)

Tekiki Finds Great Deals on iOS Apps, Can't Get Shut Down

Tekiki Finds Great Deals on iOS Apps, Can't Get Shut Down

Apple is cracking down on app discovery services like AppGratis, but Tekiki is a new HTML5 app that circumvents the App Store to help you find popular apps that are temporarily free.

Just head to Tekiki's website from your iPhone or iPad to get started. The interface isn't particularly beautiful; it doesn't even support the iPhone 5's screen size, but it does its job. The homepage shows you the most popular discounted apps, but you can also filter them by rating and genre to hone in on what you're looking for. Apps are roughly sorted by popularity within each category too, so it's easy to find the good stuff without digging through a ton of pages. Once you find something you want, click the download link and you'll get shot right over to the App Store.

If you like Tekiki, you can add it as a bookmark to your home screen to get rid of Safari's address bar, and make it feel more like a real app.
