NetNewsWire Beta Brings Several New Features, Temporarily Lacks Sync
OS X: Popular RSS reader NetNewsWire just announced a public beta of its next version, just in time for Google Reader's demise. The software adds a variety of features, but temporarily removes an important one for many users: sync.NetNewsWire 4 brings a major re-design of the interface, making it look more like a native Mac app and adding some attractive touches here and there. In particular, the new share menu makes it easier to share any article you find via email or on social media. A distraction-free reading mode removes images and puts just the text of an article on a simple off-white background. You can now also bookmark individual articles to read later, mark certain feeds as your favorites, and manage everything with tabs. More features—like sync—may come with the final release. Service Pages for Google Chrome Brings Quick Access to Chrome Settings
Chrome: Most of us know about internal Chrome settings pages like Chrome://flags, but it can be hard to remember the names for each of them. Service Pages for Google Chrome saves you from looking them up by storing them in your extensions menu.Once you install the extension, just click the gearbox icon to call up a dropdown menu of every Chrome service page. The basics like Settings, Experiments, and Extensions are all there, but there are dozens more that you probably never knew existed. For example, chrome://memory-redirect/ shows you how much RAM each of your tabs are using, and chrome://sync-internals/ lets you view and manage fine grained details of Chrome's sync.Some of the pages are either deprecated or not necessary for your Chrome configuration, so not all of the links will actually work, but you can disable bookmarks that you don't care about in the extension's settings. HTC One Google Edition Brings Stock Android to the Best Android Phone
On Stage at the D11 conference, Google's Android chief Sundar Pichai confirmed rumors that an HTC One Google Edition running vanilla Android will be available on June 26th for $600. That means the best Android phone in the world will be available unlocked and without the often clunky HTCSense skin. Heck yeah.Today's announcement comes just a few weeks after we learned about the Samsung Galaxy S4 Google Edition during the company's I/O developer's conference keynote. While we're quite fond of Google's Nexus-branded hardware, it's been pretty lame that until now you've only been able to get other flagship Android phones with each OEM's skin on top of older versions of the OS. Now you can get the two hottest phones out there with the latest version of Android and regular updates. In other words, this is an awesome trend.
